Drivers will use their high beams lights on their cars to see better at night. The best times to use your high beams are when there is no other illumination on the road. These lights will give the driver three to four times more visual distance than regular low beams. A driver should be courteous when using high beam lights. Turn off your high beams when other automobiles approach your car. Your high beams will blind the other driver.
High beams are also used to signal other vehicles coming towards you. Often times, drivers will signal approaching cars that a police car is parked and waiting for someone to break a law. Flash your high beams twice to approaching automobiles. This will usually signal other cars to slow down and approach with caution.
You should never use your high beams when driving through heavy fog. Use your low beams and drive slower than usual. You don’t want to hit a car in front of you.
Lastly, never use your high beams during the day if the weather is clear. If rain develops, use your low beams only.
